Circa 1940-1945: Collectors of solid color vintage Homer Laughlin China will appreciate how hard it is to find the butter dishes. What a great addition to the collection! The Harlequin butter dish shape was borrowed from a line called Jade, which was designed in the early 1930s. The vintage fiesta ware line didn't have a butter dish, so collectors will borrow from other Homer Laughlin pottery lines. Referred to as the 1/2 pound butter, all examples are hard to find. Early pottery techniques include a molded ram pressed base, a slip cast finial that would have been hand attached to the delicate slip cast lid along with hand dipping into the glaze piece by piece. This example in the fiesta turquoise glaze color is in excellent condition without damage. Please note a small area of lighter glaze on the top of the base and the lightest of scratches along the wells edge where the lid rests. Both pieces are marked with the quality controllers stamped numbers "26" showing that this piece was made at the same time and is likely been together it's whole life and is not a marriage. This is a wonderful piece in the very popular color of turquoise in excellent condition for the butter dish. Measures 9 1/8" w x 3 3/4" h.
