Spruce Green » | See All Fruit Bowls »
Circa 1936-1941: Four bold and exciting colors developed at Homer Laughlin in the mid 1930s were used for Woolworth's Harlequin dinnerware line. Spruce green was one of these first four colors and was only used for 5 years before new colors were introduced in the early 1940s. It is a dramatic color, rich and complex, unlike any other color in production. Along with maroon, it will be one of the harder colors to find and I always get excited when I see this unique color. Homer Laughlin made a wide variety of bowls for its Harlequin line with the fruit bowl being modeled as an exact, but smaller copy of the larger vegetable bowl. This example in the original spruce green glaze is in excellent condition, without damage and a nice even glaze. Measures 5 9/16" wide by 1 1/2" tall. Unmarked as all original vintage Harlequin was.
