Circa 1938-1942: Well, here it is the king daddy of them all - the giant #7 Fiesta nesting bowl. The sheer size of this bowl begs the question "What were they thinking at Homer Laughlin?" Even undertaking such a large piece of pottery, using the hand techniques of the late 30s, seems brazen indeed. Not only would the piece have to be spun around on a jiggering machine to be hand tooled on the inside, but it would then have to be fired once, then set to cool for days, then hand dipped (not an easy process and prone to wild mistakes), set in a kiln and fired again. But the painstaking result is worth it, for the final result is one of the highlights of the entire line. This example is in very good condition, the bowl shows minor, light, scratches with one small blemish on the rim and some glaze misses on the base, but does boast a wonderful rich and well applied, even glaze. This giant beauty was made 70 years ago. Measures a whopping 10 15/16" w x 7 1/8" tall. Very minor scratching, in excellent condition with no chips, cracks, touchups or manufacturing issues of note. From the Sandra Bond Collection.
