Vintage Harlequin Sugar Bowl and Creamer Set in Original Red Colored Glaze | Circa 1940-1942

Circa 1940-1942: Three Piece Set— The sugar bowl was the eighth piece designed for the Harlequin dinnerware line. Produced in original red until 1951, this example is the earliest version with the rings on the inside bottom of the sugar bowl and a slightly flared, hand-applied foot. Red wasn't introduced onto the Harlequin tableware shapes until 1940 and was quickly withdrawn by the end of 1942 when the uranium used in the glaze formula was recalled for WWII efforts. Because this set has the early inside bottom rings we know it isn't from later when red was reintroduced to the line because by then those delightful inside bottom rings had been removed to save labor intensive hand craftsmanship at the factory. This three piece set is in excellent condition, without damage or use. It's just wonderful to find the early sugar bowl with these inside rings and I'm sure you'll be thrilled to add this set to your Harlequin collection. Sugar bowl measures 4 1/4"h x 5 1/2w; creamer 2 5/8"h x 6 1/2"w
