Circa 1936-1942: The Fiesta Tom and Jerry mug with its' great round handle was originally another piece from a different line at Homer Laughlin pottery. Adopted by pottery designer Frederick Rhead, it was slightly modified with the addition of its' ring handle to fit in with the Fiesta line. The same layered effect under the ring handle can be seen on many other pieces handles. These adorable mugs had to be hand processed on a cup lathe to obtain their unusual concave shape. The sides and foot were shapped much like a woodworker on a lathe. Never marked in the mold, and sometimes appearing unmarked, such as this one. Truely a delight and found in all eleven vintage colors. This example in red is in excellent shape without signs of use damage. |
