Circa 1941-1951: Homer Laughlin began producing Harlequin in the late 1930s for the Woolworth five and dime stores. The sauce (or gravy) boat was added to the line shortly after its succesful release. A popular piece that ran for the rest of the length of production, dipped in all twelve glazes, the Harlequin sauce boat commands much more presence than one might think. The long, angular handle brings the total length of the piece to 8 1/2". The original glaze introduced on Harlequin in the 1940s (after its use in the fiestaware line) and the color ran until the new 1950s colors were released. This example is in excellent condition.
