Circa 1936-1951:The bands of concentric rings that fiestaware is famous for were mostly applied piece by piece on a jiggering machine that spun round and round with a small metal blade etching the rings into the pottery. The earliest of these machines were even operated by a foot petal. Since the platters weren't round they had to use a ram press with rings already in both parts of the mold that would get pressed into the clay front and back. Then dipped in the luscious vintage colors and glaze stamped on the back and fired again, the platter was made. This example in the early old ivory glaze is in excellent condtion. Measures 12 3/4" wide x 1 1/2" tall.
