Circa 1936-1951: Original green is the iconic vintage fiestaware color. Already in use on other solid color tableware lines, the classic green color was an easy choice to introduce onto the fiesta dinnerware. The color was discontinued in 1951 while the great ring handled mug stayed in production the for the rest of the pottery lines history. The fiesta Tom and Jerry mug is an interesting piece. Named after a popular drink from the 1930s which was like egg nog and served in punch bowls, the cute little shape has a hand applied ring handle that rests on a scalloped tier of three graduating swag motifs. The cup would have also had to have been hand tooled to achive its curved middle shape. It is this hand carving that gives the mugs different thicknesses and different amounts of middle curvature. This example in the original green glaze is in excellent condition without damage, please note the glaze is thick and rich and has that slight texture that is sometimes apparent on the glazes. It has a nice bold under the glaze stamp on the bottom "GENUINE fiesta HLCo USA". The mug measure 3 1/8" tall x 4 3/8" wide.
