Circa 1940: In 1939, George Washington was making the rounds of popularity again, as the first president of the United States, celebrating his 150th innaugural anniversary. Homer Laughlin paid their respects during the NY Worlds Fair at the American Potter exhibit by producing a variety of portrait mugs, pitchers and creamers. Masterfully carved, with an exhuberance of detail, both George's and his steadfast other, Martha Washington were produced. The Martha examples are much harder to find and it's nice to match them as a true pair, like these eamples, both with the 1940 trylon and perisphere symbols on the bottom. These are also the largest 5" size which is also harder to find. Both pieces are in excellent condition without damage or issues and are dipped in the Ivory Vellum Century Line glaze that was also being used on the original fiestaware line at the time.
