Circa 1934: Homer Laughlin produced a dizzying array of trays and platters. But it is the batter tray that really stands out as the premier version of the examples with it's large rectangular well and multi-step tabbed handles, add to this the scalloped edges and you really have a delightful tableware design. Normally found in the 11 1/4" size, occassionally examples like this, measuring just under 12" show up and the extra size fits the batter set much nicer. Made in a ram press where the dryer clay slip was pressed into a mold many of these ram pressed pieces will be slightly warped from the pressure, but this one is nice and flat. It also boasts a scratch free and unused looking surface. Please note a couple of in the making specs from the time of glazing at the factory. Marked on the back "Homer Laughlin MADE IN U.S.A. C 34 N 6" (which stands for 1934, November, factory 6) . Measures a generous 11 3/4" wide.
