Circa 1937-1942: There is perhaps no other piece that is as complex and artistic as the fiesta tripod candleholders, designed by Frederick Rhead and labeled in his sketch book as a "candlestick, three supports". Slip cast with liquid clay in a four part mold then joined and smoothed by hand, this intricate design showcases Homer Laughlins artistic vision. Examples in collector quality condition are very hard to find. This turquoise pair is an excellent example. Both pieces are marked in the mold on the bottom "fiesta HLCo USA" and show the fully glazed bottom. There is no damage, signs of use, touch-ups or repairs on either piece. The glaze is a nice rich robins egg blue and both pieces match. Please note one small area of glaze mottling (looks like spots in the glaze) on one candle holder along the base, but both are much better than usual examples found in the early turquoise. Measures 4 9/19" wide across the base and 3 1/2" tall.
