Vintage Fiesta Nesting Bowl #7 in Original Red Glaze For Sale | Circa 1938-1940

Home » | Nesting Bowls |

Circa 1938-1940: The sheer size of this bowl begs the question "What were they thinking at Homer Laughlin?" Even undertaking such a large piece of pottery, using the hand techniques of the late 30s, seems brazen indeed. Not only would the piece have to be spun around on a jiggering machine to be hand tooled on the inside, but it would then have to be fired once, then set to cool for days, then hand dipped (not an easy process and prone to wild mistakes), set in a kiln and fired again. But the painstaking result is worth it, for the final result is one of the highlights of the entire line.Close inspection shows a less than 1/16" chip to the inside edge of the rim, two sand bumps inside the bowl that are manufacturing in the making, and a few of the lightest of scratches. Impressed in the mold "fiesta HLC USA 7", with an exceptionally nice crisp visible number 7. Measures a whopping 10 15/16" w x 7 1/8" tall.
