Circa 1938-1942: Two Piece Set— Collectors have come to pair the small, individual Harlequin creamer with the basketweave nut dish. The two make a novel set that adds whimsy to the popular Woolworth's tableware line. The miniature creamer measures 2 1/4" tall by 2 7/8" wide from tip of spout to edge of handle. Homer Laughlin referred to the piece by many terms, including small jug #1181, Jug, (ind.), Woolworth toy cream. The nut dish also has an interesting history. Noted as an "ash tray, copy of Japanese tray. Nut Bowl" in HLCo's modeling logs, the company directly attributes the design to Japanese Marutomo ware. Happily for us collectors, the nut dish's eye catching relief carving pairs well with the creamer's simplicity, making this little marriage a delight. The nut dish measures 3" wide and a little under 1" tall. Both pieces are in excellent condition and are a treat in the earliest of all the Harlequin glazes, the lines original red, today known as maroon.
