Vintage Homer Laughlin Pottery Company Large Half Pound and Quarter Pound Butter Dishes for Sale | Circa 1936-1959

The Vintage Fiesta0 line did not include a butter specifically made for the Vintage Fiesta pottery line. Vintage Fiesta collectors dip into the other pottery lines of Harlequin and Riviera, which in turn borrowed the butter shape from the Century and Jade Homer Laughlin lines, to add the butter shape to their collections.

Circa 1951-1959: The Harlequin butter dish shape was borrowed from a 30s line called Jade. Interestingly the vintage Fiesta line never had a butter dish of it's own, so collectors turn towards this version for their collections.

Vintage Homer Laughlin Pottery Covered Butter Dish with Red Stripes and Flower Basket in Window Decal (Pattern N1481) »

Circa 1941-1949: Homer Laughlin used the large half pound butter from the Jade line not only in the harlequin glazes, but also in a variety of decals with hand applied red stripes. This example was made for the J.J. Newberry five and dimes store and would have been an ad on to ordered sets, making this example produced in very small quantities. A rare survivor in excellent, unused looking condition.

Dipped in the Harlequin colors the large butter transformed intself into a delightful play of deco angles and details. Not common in any color, the maroon glaze will elude collectors since Maroon color was discontinued early by 1940 making the length of production short for the butter in maroon.

Circa 1944: The small quarter pound version is usually found dipped in main four colors used for the Riviera line (red, blue, green and yellow), to find an example in the original Fiesta ivory vellum glaze is a rare treat indeed. Ivory colored glaze was used as a substitution for the original red glaze when the uranium needed for the red became unavailable during WWII.
