Circa 1940-1942: The Harlequin pottery line had no pieces in its selection that transcended from tableware to art pottery. The popular Fiesta line had many sizes and styles of vases, comports, two versions of candleholders, ect. But Harlequin, the utilitarian line for Woolworths, stuck to the basics— that is until Frederick Rhead gave us the Harlequin candleholders. Like stairsteps going to a temple, these pieces have all the influences of the art-deco inspired line. The bands of concentric rings are wraped around the tapering sticks and the generous platform cascades out dramatically. This example in the bright and sunny Harlequin yellow is in excellent condition, without damage. Measures 4 7/16" w x 2"h
