Circa 1940: Homer Laughlin China Co. joined Knowles, Hall, Croni, Paden City, and the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters to build and staff an operating kiln during the 1939 New York World's Fair. Homer Laughlin produced many souvenirs for the fair, including George and Martha Washington pitchers and creamers, plates with symbols of the fair, single color glazed examples of the potter at work, ashtrays embossed with the four seasons, Zodiac cup and saucer sets, and hand-thrown vases. This example of the spring scene ashtray in the original green glaze is in excellent condition without damage or use and is nicely marked in a dark glaze on the back "Joint exhibit of capital and labor — the American Potter — New York Worlds Fair 1940
