Circa 1940: The Vintage Fiesta solid colored glazes had only been introduced to the market a few years before the 1939 New York Worlds Fair. Homer Laughlins solid colored tableware was off to a promising start, and modern day collectors are fortunate to have the art pottery produced under the Joint Exhibit of Capital and Labor to add to the original assorment of specialties. The set of seasonal dishes, with the faces molded into wonderfully etched scenes, stand out from the Fiesta tableware line and show us what art pottery of HLCo was capable of producing. This example of the autumn scene ashtray in the original Vintage Fiesta red glaze is in excellent condition without damage or use and is nicely marked in a dark glaze on the back "Joint exhibit of capital and labor — the American Potter — New York Worlds Fair 1940"
