Circa 1938-1941: The Harlequin nut dish may perhaps been intended as an individual ashtray. The basket weave pattern that covers the inside is associated with the Japanese Marutomo dish. The nut bowl was adopted and began production in March of 1938. Disontinued five years later, the lucky nut dish was dipped in the original colors of Maroon, Spruce, Spruce and the bright Harlequin yellow. In the 40s they were also dipped in Red, Rose, Turquoise and Original/Light Green. This example, in the original Spruce, is in excellent condition with no apparent use and great rich and thick glaze.
