Vintage Fiesta0, Harlequin and Riviera Covered
Sugar Bowls and Creamers in Original Colors for Sale

The sugar bowl is one of the most important pieces in a potteries line. Frederick Rhead started designing his versions of Homer Laughlin sugar bowls early on. The first version of the Fiesta0 sugar bowl was slip cast, had a flat inside bottom, a deeper foot and slipcast lid with nearly a 1/2" flange. This version will be marked simply "HLC USA" (without the Made in USA), these flat bottomed sugar bowls are extrememly rare. Within three months modifications were made. The sugars foot was now jiggered by hand, causing variation in the shape, thickness, and angle of the base. The inside bottom was rounded and the flange was brought down to 1/8". The lid was formed by jiggering and the finial was seperately slip cast and attached by hand. Some sugars of this era will be found unmarked with plain bottoms and a dry wiped foot. Others will be marked "fiesta MADE IN USA". The sugar would remain the same until the 50s when the turning tool used to shape the foot was modified, causing the foot to appear less flared out than it was in the original six colors. Fiesta sugar bowls, with their scroll handles, three sets of abundant concentric rings and hand applied finial is a classic and foundational piece for the Fiesta0 line.

Vintage Fiesta Medium Green Sugar Bowl Fiestaware Pottery Vase: Gift, Rare, Hard to Find, Buy Onlline Now, American Antique Pottery

Vintage Fiesta0 Sugar Bowl
in Original Medium Green »

Circa 1959-1969: Medium Green has the distinction of being the last new color added to the shapes produced for the original line. The 60s were turbulent times and the fun family table with its great mix and match solid colored dinnerware was being replaced by a culture consumed by pattern. Consequently far less Fiesta pottery was making its way to the market place, so it is always a delight to find a classic form like the sugar bowl, with its scrolling handles and hand applied knob, and especially to find one in perfect shape in the hardest to find vintage color of them all—the elusive medium green.
