Circa 1936-1959: Here is a wonderfully clean vintage yellow Fiesta disk water pitcher, impressed in the mold and inscribed "HLC Fiesta, MADE IN USA". Holloware was made by slipcasting liquid clay into a plaster mold, seam lines were then smoothed and finished by hand. The pottery was double fired, first as bisque and secondly for the glaze in a glost kiln. When designer Frederick Rhead was first putting pen to paper, creating the Fiestaware line, his hope was to develop a shape for colored glazes, based upon concentric fluted circles. The Fiesta disk water pitcher is the fruition of this idea, which took over 20 sketches and many models before deciding on the final version. Iconic and classic, the disk water pitcher has become the quintissential piece of fiestaware. This example in yellow boasts an excellent glaze and a gorgeous finish. Very nice example with no damage and no sign of scratches, use or wear. Just great.
