The vintage Fiesta utility tray is a fun piece with a variety of possible uses– under a sugar and creamer set, as an appetizer tray (earning it the nickname "celery tray"). One of the first editions to the Fiesta line, the utility tray was introduced in mid 1936 and was made for ten years, making it one of the few original Fiesta pieces made in the first six colors only. There are two versions, and collectors will appreciate being able to acquire nice examples of the early versions that were made for just two years (dating them to 1936-1938). The early version will have straight edges, usually a dry white foot and will not have the glaze stamp "GENUINE fiesta HLCo USA" on the bottom. Initially made on a ram press, but found to warp, the Fiesta utility tray was modified to be slip cast in 1938, the trademark glaze stamp was added to the bottom, they would be fully dipped and the casting would cause much more angled edges. The two variations do not stack well together, so bear that in mind while collecting. Whatever color or variation, the vintage Fiesta Utility tray is a delight to mix-n-match at the table with whatever your imagination can inspire.
