Vintage Century/Riviera Homer Laughlin Pottery: Circa 1936-1948

Riviera pottery was adapted from Homer Laughlin's Century line in the mid 1930s. The shape was originally available in only ivory velum and usually decorated with decals. But when HLC began dipping its lighter weight dinnerware into its solid color glazes the pottery took on another dimension. Uninterupted by floral decals, the solid colored glazes accentuated the architectural and art-deco lines of designer Frederick Rhead's modern vision. Designed with humble expectations, the mix-n-match ware became a long standing success at the five-and dime. A small line with less than 20 pieces available, collectors of Fiesta and Harlequin pottery will delight in adding an occasional Century and Riviera piece to their collections and there will be many of those that are so taken with it's modern, yet vintage lines that you will find exclusive Riviera and Decaled pottery collectors. Available in original red, a bright harlequin yellow, original green and mauve blue with plain ivory pieces drifting over from the Century line.
