Circa 1938-1942
Maroon was one of the original colors introduced with the Harlequin pottery line at the end of the 1930s. Solid color dinnerware was all the rage and Harlequin was to be the superstar of the retail giant F.W. Woolworth. Maroon was originally called "red" and was one of the original four colors, including blue, spruce green (orignally just green) and yellow. Harlequin was a huge hit for Woolworth and Homer Laughlin and was sold continuously for the next 28 years. The marmalade is a great example of the holloware pieces in the line. Hand applied, art-deco inspired, handles adorn the top of a simple, conical body. One of the first five pieces dropped from production, the marmalade is a collectors dream. This example in Maroon is in excellent condition, with no damages.
