Circa 1938-1942: Maroon was one of the original 4 colors developed for the Harlequin line and will prove to be one of the hardest of all the 12 colors to find, with the exception of medium green and some light green pieces. Produced for only 4 short years, maroon glazed items are some of the most sought after items. Sometimes reffered to as the "ball jug", this shape was probably based on a Hall China piece made nearby in East Liverpool, Ohio. The Hall jug is slightly smaller and is readily confused as Fiesta pottery. The Harlequin ball jug is a fabulous piece with its distinctive, trademark rings around the base. It was made in all twelve harlequin colors. Standing at 7 1/4" x 8 1/2" wide this maroon Harlequin water pitcher is in excellent condition with no damage, no chips or cracks or touchups or repairs. This piece has a dry, wiped, base where it was shelf loaded into the kilns. Wonderful, early, hard to find maroon glaze.
