Circa 1938 to 1942: Well, here it is the king daddy of them all - the giant #7 Fiesta nesting bowl. The sheer size of this bowl begs the question "What were they thinking at Homer Laughlin?" Even undertaking such a large piece of pottery, using the hand techniques of the late 30s, seems brazen indeed. Not only would the piece have to be spun around on a jiggering machine to be hand tooled on the inside, but it would then have to be fired once, then set to cool for days, then hand dipped (not an easy process and prone to wild mistakes), set in a kiln and fired again. But the painstaking result is worth it, for the final result is one of the highlights of the entire line. This example is in very good condition, the glaze is wonderfully even without problems, the inside shows only minor scratches, and the rim shows no damage, no touch-ups or repairs. This giant beauty was made 70 years ago and looks as great today as it did then. Impressed in the mold "HLCo fiesta MADE IN USA 7". Measures a whopping 10 15/16" w x 7 1/8" tall.
