Circa 1938-1944: Original green from the 1930s and 40s is the classic Americana kitchen color. It is this green that has come to represent the era. It was a pesky color, prone to wide shifts of glaze variations. It was also tinkered with and has the distinction of being the only vintage color that was altered after production had started and pieces had been on the market. Tweaked early on to be more vibrant and rich and not quite as light, the green still needed a skilled hand to dipped without suffering from runs and drips. (Note there is a pair of glaze skips on the base). It is always a pleasure to find the large mixing bowls hand dipped with such success. The Fiesta glazes were developed by Dr. Albert Bleininger, who in 1901 got his degree in chemistry from Ohio State University. Designer Frederick Rhead noted that once, when being criticized for the blotchy glazes coming out of the Homer Laughlin kilns, Dr. Bleininger retorted "there are fifteen dippers and some of them are no good". Well, luckily one of the good ones dipped this bowl. No scratches, no use, nests perfectly and is a wonderful rich version of the original green. Marked on the bottom in the mold with the embressed "HLC fiesta MADE IN USA". Measures 8 9/16" w x 5 11/16h"
