Circa 1939: Homer Laughlin China Co. joined Knowles, Hall, Croni, Paden City, and the National Brotherhood of Operative Potters to build and staff an operating kiln during the 1939 New York World's Fair. Homer Laughlin produced many souvenirs for the fair, including George and Martha Washington pitchers and creamers, plates with symbols of the fair, single color glazed examples of the potter at work, ashtrays embossed with the four seasons, Zodiac cup and saucer sets, and hand-thrown vases. This example of the 7" yellow art vase is in excellent condition without damage or use marked with the glaze stamp on the bottom "Joint Exhibit of Capital and Labor — the American Potter — New York Worlds Fair". Of all the shapes of vases produced during the fair, this gracefull ovoid with rolled lip, in a bold and larger size, represents the upper levels of art pottery design by the Homer Laughlin Pottery Company. From the Fischer Collection. Measures 7" high.
